The former drug addict who found God and built a successful business

Image
Source: BBC NEWS I chose this certain news's story just because it creates a sort of confusion to the audience as teenagers are usually represented as bad and probably with bad attitudes. This would seem really different than the typical stories shown in the news about teenagers before. This one talks about a former drug addict teenager who turned his life around, and became a successful businessman. I believe that this news is described in a positive way because a white young man is described rather than a black one. This, again, shows how a black community is most of the time not treated equally as white communities. BBC clearly says: "    While the cynical may raise their eyebrows, Ryan, now 37, says he discovered God and quit overnight. ", religion is now brought in the context to show christianity in a positive way.   Two picture of him are shown to allow the audience to spot differences, to also provide clear evidence of his changes after all these years

The Purge film poster analysis

Image
I'm going to analyse "The Purge" poster to use it as a case study for my future exams. I will start by talking about Mark of quality, which has been used on this poster as the references to an other successful film(Paranormal activity and Sinister) were made. By showing a mark of quality, the audience is convinced that the film would be a quality product as previous films produced. The film title is combined with the image and the tag-line to give the audience certain expectations of the film. It has been written using a white colour, to make it stand out from the poster. Suspense is created as the audience would want to find out what is going to happen in the film. The release date is in bold to let the audience know when exactly the film is going to be available to watch. People would be more excited to watch it because they've been waiting for the release date, which built anticipation. The colour black is dominant to create a sense of mistery. Ou

Narrative Theory - VLADIMIR PROPP

Image
Vladimir Propp suggested that every narrative has eight different character types. The hero — the character who reacts to the dispatcher and donor characters, thwarts the villain, resolves any lacking or wrong hoods and weds the princess. The villain — an evil character that creates struggles for the hero. The dispatcher — any character who illustrates the need for the hero's quest and sends the hero off.  The helper — a typically magical entity that comes to help the hero in their quest. The princess or prize, and often her father — the hero deserves her throughout the story but is unable to marry her as a consequence of some evil or injustice, perhaps the work of the villain. The hero's journey is often ended when he marries the princess, which constitutes the villain's defeat. The donor — a character that prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object, sometimes after testing them. The false hero — a figure who takes credit for the hero's acti

Narrative Theory-CLAUDE LEVI STRAUSS

Image
Claude Levi Strauss is that the conflict is based around the binary opposites and that the binary opposites are the central climax of narrative structure. A film that could be used as an example to supports Strauss's theory is "The Guvnor". In this case, the binary opposite is : Young vs Old. Mitch, the ex-leader of a London firm known as The Guvnors that has walked away from his life of violence and more than 20 years later is happily married. He becomes concerned when his son starts to show violent tendencies through his behavior at school. He is challenged by Shanko, a local gangster, after Shanko learns of the reputation of The Guvnors. Shanko is then humiliated at the hands of another former Guvnor, Mickey. This leads to brutal retaliation and a reuniting of The Guvnors, which reignites gangland warfare spanning two generations of families.

Narrative Theory- TZVETAN TODOROV.

Image
Tzvetan Todorov' s narrative theory suggests that all narratives follow a three part structure where they begin with equilibrium, where everything is balanced, progress as something comes along to disrupt that equilibrium, and finally reach a resolution when equilibrium is restored. A film that could be used to supports Todorov's theory is "The Hangover". 1st stage-Equilibrium: One of the main character is supposed to get married, as his friends decided to go to Las Vegas just two days before. 2nd stage- Disruption: The group is drugged and wake up the next morning not knowing what happened the night before, and also the main character(The one who is meant to get married) is missing. So, they decide to leave the apartment they were living in to go and look for their friend, along the way they over come people to help them remember what happened the night before. 3rd stage- Equilibrium: They finally find their friend and get back just in time for the w

What is a thriller film?

Thriller Film is a genre that revolves around anticipation and suspense. The aim for Thrillers is to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. The protagonist in these films is set against a problem – an escape, a mission, or a mystery. No matter what sub-genre a Thriller film falls into, it will emphasize the danger that the protagonist faces. The tension with the main problem is built on throughout the film and leads to a highly stressful climax. TYPES OF THRILLER MOVIES: Action Thriller Take any other thriller subgenre, give it’s defining elements a back seat, and focus on the action, and you have an action-thriller. This is more common in movies than novels because of the visual appeal of explosions and violence. Conspiracy Thriller In this subgenre the protagonist must confront a large, powerful organization whose threat only he sees. Usually he must do so alone. Crime Thriller This subgenre focuses on crime, and is usually from the criminal’s point of vi

FIlm review september 1998 cover analysis

Image
Title is blu & bold, same font as "Film review". Main colours are red, white and blue, which stands out from the american flag used as background image. It used Rethorical question :"Can Bruce save the world?", which gives a hunt of the film to the addressed audience. It uses informal language, which means that it mainly addresses teenagers. They encourage the audience to want to read more about it as they show famous talking about their favourite films etc.. The main image is Bruce, as he's probably the main character linked with the previous rethorical question. The tag-line "No Hype No Nonsense Just Movies!" tells the audience that this is not an ordinary magazine and there is no messing about, as it just talks about movies. This makes the magazine seem more confident, which might persuade the audience to carry on reading the magazine.

Film review summer 2002 magazine cover analysis

Selling line makes a claim of quality to attract the audience:"All the latest movies in our new-look Reviews section. Central image- Uses the main character of the film spider-man in red and purple colours to make ti stands out to make it even more appealing to the audience. The title is in a different font and size to make it stands out from the cover page. All the titles in purple colour to make it look even more appealing. "$150 million in a week! Even Titanic didn't do that" -> Comparison makes the audience want to watch the film even more as they would probably want to know if it was actually worth that much and why it has sold that much in such a short time. Different character's interview from different movies are shown to let the audience know that they are quite a popular magazine. Mode of address: The way the magazine address the audience is really chatty, as it used exclamation mark as it says :"Look out!" " &"$150

London to Brighton film dvd cover analysis

Image
Layout - On the cover page a lot a different images from the film have been shown which means that there is no main image as you would probably find a typical thriller movie cover page. However, the images seem to be some kind of linked as at the top on the right hand side two women are shown looking to left side. The two women seem to be pretty innocent and scared, which could probably mean that they are the victims, and therefore also main characters. At the top of the left hand side it looks like the man is looking at them, which might mean that he is the one who actually scare them throughout the movie. Image s - There are three other images which shows a gun, a frightened man talking on the phone (maybe asking for help) and two girls walking, while one of them look back which could mean that she is scared that something may happen. The gun allow the audience to think that there would be a lot of action in the film and maybe, even death. The fact that the girl is looking back cou

Inception Trailer's Analysis

Image
The inception trailer uses a variety of methods to keep the audience engaged in the Inception trailer. The trailer tries to appeal to the audience by displaying the different genres and the use of the different shots keep the audience engaged. Towards the end of the trailer more and more quick shots are used to create tension and excitement as these scenes are usually action packed. Most of them are action based and hook the audience because it is fast paced.

The Purge's Trailer Analysis

Image
The trailer starts by stating some information about the situationin America accompanied by a very slow music. The music gets shaken as some disturbing cuts are shown, such as gun shots and fights between people on the night of the " The Purge". That obviously creates suspense, as the audience would be even more interested to find out what the whole film is about. The last thing before the title of the film is shown on the american flag is a woman holding a gun for maybe protect herself, as very surprisingly the image gets fully black and we hear a very loud scream which leaves the audience wondering about what actually happened. This helps promotes the film as people would be more likely to want to watch the movie.

Dead Silence's Poster Analysis

Image
The names of everyone who produced the film are made to stand out from the poster to show the audience who produced the movie, which are those who previously produced a very successful film such as SAW. The colour scheme is dark with accent of red and white, red to indicate death and cruelty, while white seems demonic and ghostly. The dominant central image is a ventriloquist puppet. However, its hand is sinister looking with extreme wounds.  The sub-titles "You scream, You die" refers directly to death, which intigue the audience to find out what happens in the story of the film.

Taken's Poster Analysis

Image
Mysterious tall man covers the entire background. He is shown in a side view so that the audience won't see his face.  He looks very secretive and suspicious , which might make the viewers think that he is a spy(create suspense) The Quotes used are very personal and threatening by repeating : " I " , " YOU " , " I WILL KILL YOU" . This makes the audience wonder about what the whole film would be about as the poster doesn't reveal the whole story. The use of black and white colours represents the film as quite dark, possibly foreshadowing as death. However, the orange writing " TAKEN " and the famous actor Liam Neeson covering the entire poster makes the film more appealing and make it stand out for the audience. Also, the pistol coming out from the shadow gives a shock to the audience even though it links with the idea of him being some sort of a spy in the film.

Moving Image - "Bull" Matthew McConaughey and the MKC: Official Commercial analysis.

Image
Moving Image At the beginning of the promotional video we first see a massive bull standing in front of a MKC car. By that, we can already see what the whole commercial is about as the Bull is considered to be one of the most strongest animal existent. As  Matthew McConaughey starts talking, it might appears that he is describing the bull, when he is actually describing the car. He describes the bull as "Big" and carried on saying "I have to respect that" , those certain words make any listeners or viewers understand that, that specific car, is not for jst ordinary people, it is more for posh and wealthy people.  TECHNICAL CODES Camera shot -  This is one of the main shot of the commercial, which shows and make an impact of the viewers. This makes them understand how strong and powerful the MKC car is. The shot is taken from the front to make the viewers focus even more on the size of the bull, as it would emphasise even more its majesty and strength.

*60 Second film evaluation*

I found the task hard as post-editing was not allowed and I'm not really an imaginative person therefore it was difficult for me to come up with some ideas on how to produce the film. Also, another difficult thing for me was that it had to be done in not less or more than 60 seconds. However, recording and posting the video was really simple, therefore it did not take me a lot of time to get it done. As you would probably see on the video, I focused the camera on myself and talked about the topics given throughout the film. I'd have probably talked about more things if I could have recorded for more than 60 seconds.

How does the media portrays women?

Image
Some studies have suggested that the media's portrayal of the "ideal body" for women has had a big impact on the increase in women's body dissatisfaction. Research also proposes that this media exposure is linked to the increasing occurrence of eating disorders and body image disturbances. We do know that the media and other psychology solely cause eating disorders. Emotional, and developmental factors play a big role. It does not appear necessary, however, to investigate the effect the media has on women and eating disorders. Past research has emphasized the way media images affect people’s abilities to accurately estimate their own body size.A recent study conducted by Florida State University and published by theInternational Journal of Eating Disorders found that a group of women, who were asked to browse Facebook for 20 minutes, experienced greater body dissatisfaction than those who spent 20 minutes researching rainforest cats online.
