The former drug addict who found God and built a successful business

Source: BBC NEWS

I chose this certain news's story just because it creates a sort of confusion to the audience as teenagers are usually represented as bad and probably with bad attitudes. This would seem really different than the typical stories shown in the news about teenagers before.

This one talks about a former drug addict teenager who turned his life around, and became a successful businessman. I believe that this news is described in a positive way because a white young man is described rather than a black one. This, again, shows how a black community is most of the time not treated equally as white communities. BBC clearly says: "  While the cynical may raise their eyebrows, Ryan, now 37, says he discovered God and quit overnight. ", religion is now brought in the context to show christianity in a positive way.

Two picture of him are shown to allow the audience to spot differences, to also provide clear evidence of his changes after all these years. On the first picture is pretty much understandable how bad his situation made him look like, whereas the second one shows how he is now a successful 37 years old businessman who owns his own company, and he is definitely much more healthy than before. In the first picture he is shown in his young age "enjoying" himself by doing drugs and dealing whereas in the second one he is shown being happy for his success. This two same sized pictures shows how teenagers can turn their lives around and become better people, and how being off-drugs allow you to build up something for your future and live a better life for yourself.
