Narrative Theory-CLAUDE LEVI STRAUSS

Claude Levi Strauss is that the conflict is based around the binary opposites and that the binary opposites are the central climax of narrative structure.

A film that could be used as an example to supports Strauss's theory is "The Guvnor".


In this case, the binary opposite is : Young vs Old.

Mitch, the ex-leader of a London firm known as The Guvnors that has walked away from his life of violence and more than 20 years later is happily married. He becomes concerned when his son starts to show violent tendencies through his behavior at school. He is challenged by Shanko, a local gangster, after Shanko learns of the reputation of The Guvnors. Shanko is then humiliated at the hands of another former Guvnor, Mickey. This leads to brutal retaliation and a reuniting of The Guvnors, which reignites gangland warfare spanning two generations of families.

FIlm review september 1998 cover analysis

Title is blu & bold, same font as "Film review". Main colours are red, white and blue, which stands out from the american flag used as background image. It used Rethorical question :"Can Bruce save the world?", which gives a hunt of the film to the addressed audience. It uses informal language, which means that it mainly addresses teenagers. They encourage the audience to want to read more about it as they show famous talking about their favourite films etc.. The main image is Bruce, as he's probably the main character linked with the previous rethorical question. The tag-line "No Hype No Nonsense Just Movies!" tells the audience that this is not an ordinary magazine and there is no messing about, as it just talks about movies. This makes the magazine seem more confident, which might persuade the audience to carry on reading the magazine.
