What is a thriller film?

Thriller Film is a genre that revolves around anticipation and suspense. The aim for Thrillers is to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. The protagonist in these films is set against a problem – an escape, a mission, or a mystery. No matter what sub-genre a Thriller film falls into, it will emphasize the danger that the protagonist faces. The tension with the main problem is built on throughout the film and leads to a highly stressful climax. TYPES OF THRILLER MOVIES: Action Thriller Take any other thriller subgenre, give it’s defining elements a back seat, and focus on the action, and you have an action-thriller. This is more common in movies than novels because of the visual appeal of explosions and violence. Conspiracy Thriller In this subgenre the protagonist must confront a large, powerful organization whose threat only he sees. Usually he must do so alone. Crime Thriller This subgenre focuses on crime, and is usually from the criminal’s point of vi

FIlm review september 1998 cover analysis

Image
Title is blu & bold, same font as "Film review". Main colours are red, white and blue, which stands out from the american flag used as background image. It used Rethorical question :"Can Bruce save the world?", which gives a hunt of the film to the addressed audience. It uses informal language, which means that it mainly addresses teenagers. They encourage the audience to want to read more about it as they show famous talking about their favourite films etc.. The main image is Bruce, as he's probably the main character linked with the previous rethorical question. The tag-line "No Hype No Nonsense Just Movies!" tells the audience that this is not an ordinary magazine and there is no messing about, as it just talks about movies. This makes the magazine seem more confident, which might persuade the audience to carry on reading the magazine.

London to Brighton film dvd cover analysis

Image
Layout - On the cover page a lot a different images from the film have been shown which means that there is no main image as you would probably find a typical thriller movie cover page. However, the images seem to be some kind of linked as at the top on the right hand side two women are shown looking to left side. The two women seem to be pretty innocent and scared, which could probably mean that they are the victims, and therefore also main characters. At the top of the left hand side it looks like the man is looking at them, which might mean that he is the one who actually scare them throughout the movie. Image s - There are three other images which shows a gun, a frightened man talking on the phone (maybe asking for help) and two girls walking, while one of them look back which could mean that she is scared that something may happen. The gun allow the audience to think that there would be a lot of action in the film and maybe, even death. The fact that the girl is looking back cou

The Purge's Trailer Analysis

Image
The trailer starts by stating some information about the situationin America accompanied by a very slow music. The music gets shaken as some disturbing cuts are shown, such as gun shots and fights between people on the night of the " The Purge". That obviously creates suspense, as the audience would be even more interested to find out what the whole film is about. The last thing before the title of the film is shown on the american flag is a woman holding a gun for maybe protect herself, as very surprisingly the image gets fully black and we hear a very loud scream which leaves the audience wondering about what actually happened. This helps promotes the film as people would be more likely to want to watch the movie.

Dead Silence's Poster Analysis

Image
The names of everyone who produced the film are made to stand out from the poster to show the audience who produced the movie, which are those who previously produced a very successful film such as SAW. The colour scheme is dark with accent of red and white, red to indicate death and cruelty, while white seems demonic and ghostly. The dominant central image is a ventriloquist puppet. However, its hand is sinister looking with extreme wounds.  The sub-titles "You scream, You die" refers directly to death, which intigue the audience to find out what happens in the story of the film.

Taken's Poster Analysis

Image
Mysterious tall man covers the entire background. He is shown in a side view so that the audience won't see his face.  He looks very secretive and suspicious , which might make the viewers think that he is a spy(create suspense) The Quotes used are very personal and threatening by repeating : " I " , " YOU " , " I WILL KILL YOU" . This makes the audience wonder about what the whole film would be about as the poster doesn't reveal the whole story. The use of black and white colours represents the film as quite dark, possibly foreshadowing as death. However, the orange writing " TAKEN " and the famous actor Liam Neeson covering the entire poster makes the film more appealing and make it stand out for the audience. Also, the pistol coming out from the shadow gives a shock to the audience even though it links with the idea of him being some sort of a spy in the film.
