Explore how black and white ethnicities are differently represented in 2016-2017 music videos using “big for your boots” by Stormzy; “4 days” by 67 featuring monkey, dimzy and r6; and “what makes you beautiful” by One direction as examples. Black and white ethnicities have been differently throughout the years, especially in the 21 st century, where differences are evident and easily noticed in the music industry as the media consistently affects people’s views and opinions by supporting stereotypes.  I decided to use those certain examples, as I believe they successfully support today’s stereotypes over white and black ethnicities. Labels The artists are owned and sponsored by different music labels, which affects the way they are presented in their music video. The different labels interact with the way they are presented as they try to express their thoughts about different topics and stereotypes through the artists they sponsor...

Given the success of  It , we're half expecting Pennywise the clown to show up with some shiny new gold teeth and maybe a more luxurious balloon. But regardless of what the central terror does in the intervening years, the follow-up to the first film will hit cinemas in 2019. Andy Muschietti  will be back to direct the adaptation of the second half of  Stephen King 's book, which follows the heroic Loser's Club as they return to Derry, Maine after 27 years. They thought they'd escaped the place and its nightmare creature, but a devastating phone call brings them all back. The new movie will also feature flashbacks to the kids' story too. It  has been scaring away the competition at the box office for weeks (it was finally unseated by  Kingsman: The Golden Circle  this weekend) and snatched a host of records, including the largest opening for a horror film in the States, largest opening for a movie based on a book, and is the most successful cinematic ...

Narrative conventions in Print texts:

Image
Example: The PURGE: Anarchy film poster The main image that appears on this print text immediately create confusion in the audience's minds as the character shown seem scary and even more terrifying as they are wearing odd masks to hide their identity. Iconography is also used as the main characters use masks, allowing the audience to believe that something bad is probably going to happen in the movie as hiding often link to mystery. They also got fire and knives surrounding them, which means that killing and blood are probably the two key factors in this thriller.  The tag line also intrigues the audience as it talks about having a night where all crime are legal, which means that any sort of crime would be allowed which might allow the audience to prepare themselves to see some outrageous acting throughout the movie. However, the tag line gives a meaning to the main image, as it explains why fire, odd masks and knives are shown. The tag line is used as a clue for the a...

Homer( The Simpson ), How is a middle-age male represented in media?

In the TV programe " The Simpson " there are examples of stereotypical representations of middle age males. For example, the representation of the main middle age character Homer is that he is angry pretty much all the time, he is very lazy and careless. He is also shown as dirty and drunk most of the time. This can be seen through his action which are pretty similar in every episode of the eerie. By presenting   these stereotypical representations, the media is reinforcing negative ideas about middle-age male which may have influence on the audience, which would probably react depending on what the media shows them.

The former drug addict who found God and built a successful business

Image
Source: BBC NEWS I chose this certain news's story just because it creates a sort of confusion to the audience as teenagers are usually represented as bad and probably with bad attitudes. This would seem really different than the typical stories shown in the news about teenagers before. This one talks about a former drug addict teenager who turned his life around, and became a successful businessman. I believe that this news is described in a positive way because a white young man is described rather than a black one. This, again, shows how a black community is most of the time not treated equally as white communities. BBC clearly says: "    While the cynical may raise their eyebrows, Ryan, now 37, says he discovered God and quit overnight. ", religion is now brought in the context to show christianity in a positive way.   Two picture of him are shown to allow the audience to spot differences, to also provide clear evidence of his changes after all these years...

The Purge film poster analysis

Image
I'm going to analyse "The Purge" poster to use it as a case study for my future exams. I will start by talking about Mark of quality, which has been used on this poster as the references to an other successful film(Paranormal activity and Sinister) were made. By showing a mark of quality, the audience is convinced that the film would be a quality product as previous films produced. The film title is combined with the image and the tag-line to give the audience certain expectations of the film. It has been written using a white colour, to make it stand out from the poster. Suspense is created as the audience would want to find out what is going to happen in the film. The release date is in bold to let the audience know when exactly the film is going to be available to watch. People would be more excited to watch it because they've been waiting for the release date, which built anticipation. The colour black is dominant to create a sense of mistery. Ou...
